The Solomon Islands National University (SINU), through its Faculty of Education and Humanities (FEH), is honoured to announce that it has been selected to host the 2026 Oceania Comparative and International Education Society (OCIES) 54th Conference. The decision was confirmed by the OCIES Executive following a successful bid submission by the University, during its AGM at the University of Canterbury yesterday, Tuesday, 25 November 2025.
The OCIES ‘Waka’ was handed over to the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Humanities, SINU, at a brief ceremony this morning by the OCIES Co-President Dr Sonya Fonua and Dr David Small, representing the University of Canterbury as the host of the 2025 OCIES Conference, which concluded today, Wednesday 26 November 2025.
The 2026 Conference will be held in Honiara at the Panatina Campus in November 2026 and is expected to bring together researchers, educators, policymakers, and practitioners from across the Pacific and wider Oceania region. The conference will centre on regional collaboration, the sharing of innovative research, and the strengthening of education systems throughout Oceania.
Dean of the Faculty of Education and Humanities (FEH), Dr Patricia Rodie, expressed her gratitude for the selection, stating, “We are deeply humbled and honoured by the confidence the OCIES Executive has placed in SINU. Hosting this conference is a milestone for our University and the Solomon Islands, and we look forward to welcoming participants and speakers from the region to Honiara in 2026.”
The event will highlight Pacific knowledge systems, promote dialogue on education transformation, and strengthen regional partnerships. Preparations for the conference will begin immediately in collaboration with OCIES and local partners.
