Overview


The department aims to provide an excellent and high-quality learning environment for students including practical hands-on training in tropical agriculture of relevance to the Solomon Islands and Pacific region. We value innovation, inclusivity, collegiality, and aim to create and empower future leaders in Agriculture. The academic staff help students attain the following graduate attributes: effective communication skills, global awareness, professional leadership capacity in their field, creativity and critical thinking, and being work-ready and job creators.

The programs emphasizes sustainability, requiring that students respect the environment and each other as future agricultural professionals. The prime goal of the programme is to equip learnersโ€™ cognitive ability with the needed academic and professional knowledge, technical and management skills, confidence and motivation that will enable them to successfully pursue careers in the administration and management of libraries and information centres. It also provides more learning opportunities at the higher educational level.

Mr. Lawrence Atu

Mr. Lawrence Atu is Head of Department of Agriculture at the Faculty of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. He first joined the School of Natural Resources and Applied Sciences then as a part-time lecturer and was formally employed in 2015 as a Lecturer in Crop Sciences. Before that, he had been working with food security and climate change-related projects under ACIAR in Honiara and International Potato Centre organization based in Indonesia. His recent study was on sweet potato propagation technology at the University of Queensland in fulfilment for my Masters of Philosophy degree in 2014. He is also a member of the Kaukau net organization.
