The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is pleased to welcome Mr Ronny Horo from the Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services (MPNSCS) on a six-month secondment to support the delivery of the Postgraduate Diploma in Security Studies.
Mr Ronny Saohu Horo is an experienced national security professional from MPNSCS, where he currently serves as Deputy Director of the National Security Division and has previously held the role of Acting Director. He has more than nine yearsโ€™ experience in national security policy, strategic assessment, and inter-agency coordination, and has played a key role in the development and implementation of the Solomon Islands National Security Strategy, Maritime Security Strategy, and the countryโ€™s national security architecture.
Mr Horo holds a Masterโ€™s degree in Security and Strategic Studies from Macquarie University, a postgraduate qualification in Diplomacy and International Relations from the University of the South Pacific, and a Bachelorโ€™s degree in Law and Pacific Policing. His professional experience includes leading stakeholder consultations, coordinating whole-of-government security committees, and representing Solomon Islands in regional security dialogues. This combination of academic training and senior policy experience brings strong practical and strategic expertise to his secondee role, supporting both the delivery and contextual relevance of SINUโ€™s Postgraduate Diploma in Security Studies.
During his secondment, Mr Horo will focus on programme coordination and ensuring the continued contextual and operational relevance of the units delivered under the diploma. His role will strengthen alignment between academic content and the practical realities of policing and national security work in the Solomon Islands.
This secondment represents the first formal activity under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between SINU and MPNSCS, which establishes a framework for collaboration in education, training, research, and professional development across the security sector.
The secondment is made possible through funding support from the Australian Government, reflecting ongoing investment in strengthening national security capacity and tertiary education partnerships in Solomon Islands.
Through his placement at SINU, Mr Horo will work closely with academic staff and programme leadership to support curriculum implementation, contribute practitioner perspectives to teaching and learning, and assist with coordination of stakeholder engagement across relevant government agencies.
SINU acknowledges MPNSCS for its strong commitment to supporting tertiary education and professional development through staff secondments and knowledge exchange. The University also recognises the Australian Governmentโ€™s continued support for initiatives that strengthen institutional capacity and build sustainable local expertise in the security sector.
This secondment marks an important step in strengthening collaboration between academia and government to support a highly skilled, locally grounded, and professionally prepared national security workforce.โ€‹
