Press Release
18 July 2026
Solomon Islands National University Vice- Chancellor, Professor Transform Aqorau, has released a Strategic Leadership Overview outlining SINU’s progress, challenges and priorities from 16 March to 18 July 2026.
The report brings together the University’s work in governance, accreditation, teaching and learning, student welfare, staff development, financial reform, infrastructure, research, commercialisation, renewable energy and strategic partnerships.
Professor Aqorau said the report was not simply a record of meetings or correspondence, but a reflection on how SINU’s different initiatives contribute to one long-term institutional transformation agenda.
“The work we are undertaking is interconnected. Strengthening governance, improving academic quality, supporting students and staff, modernising systems, developing partnerships and improving financial sustainability are all essential to building a stronger national university,” he said.
Key areas of progress include the launch of the SINU Strategic Plan 2026–2030, advancement of SITESA registration and accreditation, academic programme reviews, implementation of the TechnologyOne ERP project, engagement on outstanding Government funding, student exchanges, infrastructure projects, research and policy initiatives, and new domestic and international partnerships.
The report also acknowledges continuing challenges, including funding constraints, Government arrears, ageing infrastructure, recruitment delays, fragmented systems and limited institutional capacity.
Priorities for the next six months include completing key accreditation requirements, strengthening HR and financial systems, progressing ERP implementation, addressing urgent infrastructure needs, improving the student experience, expanding research and partnerships, developing commercial activities and advancing renewable energy opportunities.
Professor Aqorau thanked Council, Senate, staff, students and partners for their contribution and support.
“The transformation of SINU will take time, but the foundations are being laid. Our next task is to maintain momentum, strengthen implementation and remain focused on serving our students and the people of Solomon Islands.”
The report will be formally submitted to the University Council, Senate and Senior Management Committee for their information.
