SINU Vice-Chancellor Appointed Adjunct Professor at University of Queensland Law School

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is pleased to announce the appointment of its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Transform Aqorau, as an Adjunct (Honorary) Professor at the T.C. Beirne School of Law, The University of Queensland (UQ).

The appointment, effective from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028, recognises Professor Aqorauโ€™s distinguished academic standing, leadership in higher education, and long-standing contributions to law, governance, and regional policy engagement, particularly in the Pacific .

The appointment further strengthens the growing academic partnership between SINU and one of Australiaโ€™s leading universities, opening new opportunities for collaboration in teaching, research, mentorship, and institutional capacity building.

Speaking on the appointment, Professor Aqorau said, โ€œI am deeply honoured by the appointment as an Honorary Professor at The University of Queensland, and I am most grateful for the confidence, support, and friendship extended to me by colleagues at UQ. This appointment means a great deal not only to me personally, but also to Solomon Islands National University. It strengthens the academic bridge between SINU and a world-class university and reinforces our shared commitment to excellence in teaching, research, policy engagement, and regional impact, particularly for the Pacific.โ€

He added that the timing of the appointment carries special significance for the University community, โ€œcoming just before Christmas, this news is truly a wonderful gift for SINU. It provides encouragement to our staff and students, and opens further opportunities for collaboration, joint research, mentorship, and capacity building between our institutions. I very much look forward to working closely with UQ Law to translate this relationship into tangible outcomes for both our universities and the region.โ€

The University of Queensland noted that such honorary and adjunct appointments are central to building strong connections with leaders in academia and professional practice, and to advancing shared research and educational goals.

Professor Aqorau continues to serve as Vice-Chancellor of SINU while contributing to regional and international academic networks.

Professor Transform Aqorau also holds an Honorary Doctorate cum laude (with honours) from the College of Law at the Australian National University (ANU).
