Press Release
3 November 2026
The Chairperson of the Solomon Islands National University’s (SINU) Physical Resources Committee (PRC), Dr Kristina Fidali, has met with relevant University departments and the Office of the Pro-Chancellor to finalise the Committee’s Annual Business Schedule for 2027.
The meeting focused on establishing a coordinated and strategic programme of business to enable the PRC to discharge its oversight and advisory responsibilities effectively throughout 2027, in accordance with its proposed annual meeting schedule.
The development of the Business Schedule is intended to ensure that the Committee’s meetings are purposeful, properly planned and supported by timely departmental reports, progress updates and recommendations on matters relating to the University’s physical resources and infrastructure development.
The discussions brought together relevant institutional stakeholders to identify key priorities, planned activities, implementation targets and reporting requirements across the University’s physical resources portfolio.
In particular, the Business Schedule will be aligned with the SINU Strategic Plan 2026–2030, SINU Master Plan, the Corporate Plan, the University’s 2027 Annual Work Plan, the University Academic Calendar and the University’s annual budget and development priorities.
This alignment will ensure that the Committee’s business is coordinated with the University’s broader planning and governance frameworks and that matters requiring its consideration are presented at the appropriate stages of the University’s annual planning and implementation cycle.
Following the meeting, Dr Fidali urged the relevant Heads of Department, particularly those responsible for ICT, Property and Facilities, Planning and Business Investment, and Corporate and Campus Life, to ensure that their respective departmental priorities, programmes, activities and performance targets are properly aligned with the University’s relevant strategic and operational planning frameworks.
The Chairperson further emphasised the importance of departments maintaining regular progress updates, monitoring implementation against agreed targets and providing timely reports to support the Committee’s deliberations and oversight responsibilities.
Key areas to be covered under the 2027 Business Schedule include:
- Infrastructure Development: Monitoring major construction projects, campus development and institutional infrastructure priorities.
- Capital Investment and Budget Oversight: Reviewing capital expenditure, proposed infrastructure investments and resource allocation.
- Property and Asset Management: Strengthening the management, protection, maintenance and utilisation of University properties, assets and facilities.
- ICT Infrastructure Development: Supporting digital infrastructure, ICT integration and improved institutional service delivery.
- Campus Development and Sustainability: Promoting safe, accessible, inclusive and environmentally sustainable University facilities.
- Planning and Business Investment: Ensuring infrastructure proposals and development investments are supported by appropriate planning, feasibility assessments and institutional priorities.
- Risk Management and Accountability: Monitoring project implementation, procurement and contract management, internal audit recommendations and outstanding Committee resolutions.
The PRC is expected to hold three scheduled meetings in 2027. Each meeting will focus on specific institutional priorities, including annual infrastructure performance, project implementation, capital investment planning, budget development and annual performance evaluation.
The Business Schedule will therefore serve as an important coordination, monitoring and accountability mechanism, ensuring that departmental activities and reports are presented in a timely manner and that the Committee can effectively monitor progress against agreed institutional targets.
The initiative reflects SINU’s continued commitment to strengthening institutional governance, improving coordination between governance and management structures, and ensuring that infrastructure and physical resource investments contribute directly to the University’s strategic objectives and long-term development.
