Press Release
16 March 2026
The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (FAFF) has acquired a new tiller machine to support farming operations at the FAFF farm.
The Dean of FAFF, Dr Vaeno Wayne Vigulu, welcomed the arrival of the machine earlier this week and expressed appreciation to SINU management for the timely support in strengthening the facultyโs agricultural activities.
Dr Vigulu said the acquisition, valued at SBD 35,500, will significantly improve farm operations and enhance the facultyโs capacity to deliver practical agricultural training for students.
FAFF Farm Manager Mr Albert Rava said the machine has arrived at an appropriate time as the faculty continues to expand its farm production.
โThe tiller machine will help increase our farmโs production capacity while also reducing labour costs,โ Mr Rava said.
He added that the equipment will also play an important role in enhancing studentsโ practical learning, supporting agricultural research and demonstrations, increasing income generation, and promoting sustainable farm management practices at FAFF.
Mr Rava further explained that the FAFF farm already has a similar machine donated by JQY, which is specifically designed for making ridges for crops. However, the newly acquired power tiller machine is more versatile and will support multiple farming operations, including primary tillage, secondary tillage, and ridging.
The acquisition forms part of SINUโs ongoing commitment to strengthening agricultural training, research, and production within the Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry.
