The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) on 7 April 2026 welcomed a delegation of experts from the Republic of Korea under the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) programme, as part of ongoing support to strengthen the Fisheries Studies Programme.
The meeting, held at SINU, brought together theย KOICAย expert team from Pukyong National University and OceanWide, alongside SINU leadership and faculty from the Department of Fisheries Studies (DFS). Discussions focused on advancing curriculum development, enhancing teaching capacity, and improving facilities to support high-quality fisheries education in the Solomon Islands.
This engagement forms part of theย โPost-project Support for Establishment and Capacity Building of the Fisheries Studies in Solomon Islandsโ, under which a team of Korean experts is currently in-country for a two-week mission.
Key areas of collaboration discussed during the meeting included:
- Strengthening academic and technical capacity of DFS faculty
- Reviewing and improving curriculum design across fisheries disciplines
- Enhancing practical training through better use of equipment and facilities
- Supporting long-term institutional development and sustainability of the programme
The visit will also include workshops, curriculum planning sessions, and stakeholder consultations with government and industry partners, culminating in a national workshop on fisheries education and industry collaboration.
SINU acknowledges the continued partnership and support fromย KOICAย and its implementing partners, which play a critical role in building national capacity for sustainable fisheries management and development.
