SINU DFS 2019 1st Annual Award Event

The Department of Fisheries Studies (DFS) successfully held its first-ever annual award event at the complex on Friday 15th November 2019, for its students. The event, a component of the Department’s strategic plan, is aimed at motivating, incentivizing, and encouraging students who achieve academic excellence and maintain exemplary graduate attributes.

Special guests of the event were Mr. Solomon Pita (Dean STMS) and Mrs. Delvene Boso (WorldFish Country Director), who also presented the awards to students. The award categories and student recipients were:

The 2019 DFS Dux Award”, received by Mr. Daniel Pita Tutu (a final year student doing Certificate in Fisheries Studies) and Mr. Martin Tsuki (Jnr.) (a final year student doing Diploma of Fisheries);

“The 2019 DFS Student Icon of the Year Award”, won by Mr. Clarence Cheon (a first year student doing Bachelor of Fisheries Studies);

The “Special Recognition Award” and the “Special Attribute Award” were presented to twelve (12) students on a set of criteria based on various attributes, including good character, leadership qualities, and participation in voluntary activities at the department, general outlook, and academic commitment, throughout the 2019 academic year.

A special segment of the event saw the official farewell for Mr. Je Hyeong-Woo, DFS’s first KOICA volunteer (Aquaculture), and welcoming of its new KOICA volunteers.

The events organizing committee wishes to sincerely acknowledge SINU (Public Relations Office) for mechanizing gift sponsorship, and the WorldFish, for sponsoring award Medallions and Internship programs for the 2019 DFS Dux recipients. Given the success of the event, DFS will endeavor to maintain it, and potentially further expand the awards to include other valued achievements at the Department.
