Press Release
2 July 2026
The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Distance and Flexible Learning (DFL) Centre has reached out to young people in Western Province through an educational awareness programme during the Tungavalu Region Youth Rally.
During the session, DFL Learner Support Coordinator Jonny Tasa and DFL Enrolment Officer Junior Joash encouraged participants to embrace education as a pathway to transforming their lives, strengthening their families, uplifting their communities, and contributing to national development.
Participants were reminded that quality education is no longer limited to those living in urban centres, as SINU’s flexible learning model makes higher education accessible to people across the country.
Highlighting the affordability and accessibility of the DFL model, the team explained that improved internet access in many rural communities now enables students to enrol in and complete SINU DFL programmes without relocating.
The team also shared success stories of former school dropouts who returned to study through DFL and successfully graduated with certificates, diplomas, and degrees, with many continuing to higher-level qualifications.
SINU DFL remains committed to ensuring that quality education reaches every province and community through flexible learning, empowering Solomon Islanders to achieve their educational aspirations regardless of where they live.
The rally reinforced the message that when faith, education, and opportunity come together, lives are transformed.
Youth groups from Waigana, Titiana, Rawaki, and Honiara participated in the awareness programme and expressed their appreciation to the SINU DFL team for delivering timely information on the flexible learning opportunities available through the University.
