ย Solomon Islands National University is pleased to congratulate Dr Clyde Puilingi, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology and Assistant Professor in Chemistry, on his appointment to the UNESCO Global Task Force of Experts 2026โ2027 on Traditional Pharmacopoeia in the context of Sport Values, Ethics and Integrity.
The appointment is a significant honour for Dr Puilingi, for Solomon Islands National University, and for Solomon Islands as a country. It is also an important recognition of the expertise and contribution that Solomon Islanders can make to global discussions in science, sport, ethics, traditional knowledge and international cooperation.
The Global Task Force is convened under UNESCOโs work relating to the International Convention against Doping in Sport. It will bring together experts to consider issues connected to traditional pharmacopoeia, sport values, ethics and integrity, including how traditional knowledge and practices may intersect with anti-doping frameworks and the protection of athletes.
SINU Vice-Chancellor Professor Transform Aqorau said the appointment reflects the Universityโs growing contribution to regional and international dialogue.
ย โThis is indeed an honour for the country, for the University, and for our sporting organisations. For a Solomon Islander to be recognised in this way by UNESCO is a proud moment for all of us. On behalf of Solomon Islands National University, I warmly congratulate Dr Clyde Puilingi on this important appointment,โ the Vice Chancellor said.
โThis recognition demonstrates that SINU has academics and professionals whose knowledge and expertise can contribute to important global issues. It is also an opportunity for Solomon Islands to raise its visibility in UNESCO and other international fora, and to ensure that our perspectives, experiences and knowledge systems are part of these global conversations.โ
Dr Puilingiโs academic background in chemistry and his leadership within the Faculty of Science and Technology place him in a strong position to contribute to the work of the Task Force. His participation is expected to provide an opportunity for Solomon Islands to engage in discussions on anti-doping, traditional pharmacopoeia, ethics, sport integrity and the responsible recognition of traditional knowledge.
The University also acknowledges the role of national and international partners in supporting Solomon Islandsโ participation in UNESCO-related initiatives and global platforms. Such opportunities help to strengthen the countryโs presence in international policy, science, education and sport discussions.
SINU wishes Dr Puilingi every success as he begins his engagement with the UNESCO Global Task Force of Experts 2026โ2027.
