The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Automotive Engineering Department under SINU TAFE has received a donation of tools and toolboxes from Ela Motors Solomon Islands to support practical training for automotive apprentices.
Ela Motors Finance and Administration Manager, Ravneel Kumar, presented 12 toolboxes containing automotive tools to the Automotive Engineering Department during a brief handover ceremony held this morning at SINU’s Kukum Campus.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Kumar said Ela Motors was pleased to support the department through the donation.
He explained that while the tools are pre-owned, they remain in good condition and are suitable for training and learning purposes.
Also speaking at the ceremony, Director of SINU TAFE, Solomon Pita, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, the Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic), and the staff and students of the Automotive Engineering Department, School of Technology, expressed sincere appreciation to Ela Motors Solomon Islands for its generous donation.
“This valuable contribution is more than just equipment—it is an investment in the education and future of our students. These tools will provide our trainees with greater opportunities to develop the practical knowledge and hands-on skills that are essential in the automotive industry.
“Your support will also strengthen the department’s capacity to deliver high-quality apprenticeship training, competency-based training, short courses, and other automotive programmes.
“We kindly ask your team to convey our deepest gratitude to the General Manager and everyone at Ela Motors Solomon Islands. Your partnership and commitment to supporting technical and vocational education are greatly appreciated, and we are truly thankful for your confidence in our students and our programmes.
“We look forward to strengthening this partnership for the benefit of our students, our institution, and the automotive industry in Solomon Islands.”
Head of the Automotive Engineering Department, Samuel Kwaoga, said the donated tools will provide apprentices with access to modern, industry-standard equipment, enabling them to further develop their practical skills and better prepare for careers in the automotive industry.
Mr. Kwaoga also acknowledged Mr. Toni Sego for his instrumental role in facilitating the donation.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to sincerely acknowledge Mr. Toni Sego, whose initiative made this generous donation possible. Mr. Sego was the first to approach Ela Motors with the idea of supporting our Automotive Apprenticeship Programme through the donation of automotive training tools. His initiative, commitment, and proactive engagement with industry have secured a valuable contribution that will benefit our students for years to come.”
Meanwhile, Apprenticeship Coordinator Toni Sego encouraged students to take good care of the donated tools so future apprentices can also benefit from them.
The handover ceremony was attended by representatives from Ela Motors Solomon Islands, SINU TAFE staff, and students.
