Solomon Islands National University (SINU) today welcomed Dr Paula Vivili, Director-General of the Pacific Community (SPC), and his delegation for a productive exchange on strengthening cooperation between the two regional institutions.
The discussions reviewed existing fisheries projects and explored opportunities for deeper collaboration in fisheries education, applied research, professional training and community engagement.
SINU and SPC also discussed expanding their partnership in agriculture, including climate-smart farming, food and nutrition security, biosecurity, value-adding and livelihood development. Further opportunities will be explored through SINU’s Centre for Islands Futures, particularly in areas that connect research and innovation with the needs of government, industry and communities.
SINU Vice-Chancellor Professor Transform Aqorau emphasised the importance of SPC’s contribution to evidence-based development across the Pacific.
“SPC’s technical work is vital to our region because it provides the scientific evidence that must underpin sound policy in critical areas of development. By bringing that expertise together with SINU’s teaching, research and community connections, we can translate knowledge into practical solutions that improve livelihoods and strengthen the resilience of our communities,” Professor Aqorau said.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of SINU and SPC to building a stronger, practical and long-term partnership that delivers measurable benefits for Solomon Islands and the wider Pacific region.
