21 OCTOBER 2026
The Solomon Islands National University (SINU), in partnership with Honiara City Council (HCC), hosted a Clean and Green Campaign Awareness Session at the SINU Kukum Campus Lecture Theatre on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, to promote responsible waste management and environmental cleanliness.
The session brought together speakers from SINU and HCC to raise awareness about proper waste disposal, waste management practices and the importance of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Mr George Horoasia, Lecturer in the Department of Environmental Studies, Faculty of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, presented on waste management awareness, while Mr Abednigo Maeohu, Deputy Director of the Waste Management and Control Division at HCC, discussed waste management in Honiara City.
The session also featured Ms Abe Mifuyu, a Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteer (JOCV) with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), serving as an Environmental Education Officer within HCC’s Environmental Health Division.
Participants engaged in an open question-and-answer session, providing an opportunity to discuss waste management challenges and practical ways to improve environmental cleanliness.
SINU encourages staff and students to support its ongoing Clean and Green Campaign every Wednesday from 9:00 am to 10:00 am by cleaning around offices, classrooms and other campus areas.
Through this initiative, SINU and HCC continue to encourage shared responsibility for keeping campuses and communities clean, healthy and environmentally sustainable.
