Press Release
12 March 2026
Adjunct Professor Danielle Watson of the Solomon Islands National University (SINU) launched a new research report examining domestic violence responses in Solomon Islands during an International Women’s Day event held in Honiara.
The report forms part of Watson’s Australian Research Council Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) research on domestic violence in Pacific Island countries. The Solomon Islands report presents findings on how domestic violence cases are managed within the local context and highlights the complex social, cultural and institutional dynamics that shape frontline responses.
The launch event brought together representatives from government, law enforcement, civil society organisations and the research community to reflect on the findings and discuss opportunities for strengthening responses to gender-based violence in Solomon Islands.
The report contributes to ongoing efforts to improve understanding of domestic violence and support evidence-informed policy and practice responses within the country.
