Students at Solomon Islands National University received a pleasant surprise on Tuesday afternoon when the Honourable Prime Minister, Mathew Wale, made an impromptu visit to one of their classes.
The Prime Minister entered the FIN705 Advanced Public Finance and Economics class at around 3.30 pm. The class, held at the Faculty of Business and Tourism Studies, was being taught by Professor Kapila Mallah.
The visit was entirely unannounced and brought considerable excitement to the classroom. The Prime Minister spoke warmly with the students and encouraged them to remain committed to their studies, work hard and make full use of the educational opportunities available to them.
He also extended his best wishes to the students for their future, reminding them of the important contribution they could make to Solomon Islands through their education and professional careers.
SINU Vice-Chancellor Professor Transform Aqorau thanked the Prime Minister for taking time to visit the class and engage directly with the students.
“On behalf of the University, I warmly thank the Honourable Prime Minister, Mathew Wale, for visiting one of our classes and spending time with our students. It was a simple but very meaningful gesture. When the leader of our country walks into a classroom without ceremony and speaks directly with students, it reminds them that their education, their aspirations and their future contribution to Solomon Islands genuinely matter,” Professor Aqorau said.
“This will certainly not be an experience that these students will forget. They were able to meet the Prime Minister in their own classroom, speak with him and receive his personal encouragement. It is a special moment that the students, the Faculty and the wider SINU community can all be proud of.”
Professor Mallah said the Prime Minister’s unexpected presence brought great happiness and enthusiasm to the students. She described the visit as a memorable interaction between the country’s leadership and young Solomon Islanders preparing themselves for future responsibilities.
The visit reflected the Prime Minister’s personal interest in students and higher education and gave the class an opportunity to experience national leadership at close range.
SINU again expresses its sincere appreciation to the Honourable Prime Minister for his visit and for the encouragement he offered to the students.
