The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Faculty of Nursing, Medicine and Health Sciences (FNMHS) today successfully hosted a Mini Symposium, which saw lecturers present their research findings.
Speaking at the official opening, FNMHS Dean Dr Humpress Harrington said hosting the Mini Symposium marked an important milestone for the faculty.
He said the event provided an avenue for staff and their respective groups to present research projects they had carried out since 2025.
“Today marks a very important milestone in our faculty by having this mini symposium. This event provides avenue for our staff and groups to present their humble projects that has been implemented or carried out last year and this year.”
“The symposium of this nature helps to trigger research enthusiasm of staff and students, helps to kindle or re-think of the research interest this boiling within different individuals, and provides avenue for staff and students to practice their presentation before presenting their projects at the conference in country and or overseas.”
The FNMHS Dean also highlighted that the event presented a great opportunity for participants to listen, learn, and think about their own research moving forward.
While acknowledging staff who had taken the leading role in engaging in research and presenting their findings, Dr Harrington said this was just the beginning, with more research activities to come from the faculty, and the Research Department.
He said engaging in research allowed staff and students to learn and understand research concepts taught in class or during professional development sessions. It also provided opportunities to produce new knowledge, while research evidence and findings could help change mindsets, practices, and operational guidelines, as well as prepare staff and students to undertake master’s degrees by research and PhDs.
The FNMHS Dean then thanked the SINU Research and Postgraduate Division for collaborating with FNMHS in supporting its research projects.
Speaking during the event, Director of the SINU Research and Postgraduate Division, Dr Hugo Bugoro, congratulated those who had successfully completed their research and encouraged them to continue engaging in research moving forward.
The research projects presented during the Mini Symposium were supported by the SINU Research and Postgraduate Division.
