Unit Title:Β Maths Education 1
This unit offers basic knowledge and skills for developing the concept of Numbers and Operations, Measurement and Geometry and Basic ideas in statistics. It will cover topics on teaching and learning strategies of Numbers and Operations, Measurement and Geometry and Basic ideas in statistics to enhance students learning of mathematics in the primary schools in the Solomon Islands. It will further look at the Solomon Islands Primary Mathematics curriculum to plan and teach lessons using the knowledge and skills acquired in this unit. This unit offers an understanding of the nature of teaching and learning, and the role of the teacher in enhancing the teaching approach. It aims to prepare trainees to be competent in a range of skills related to effective teaching. Similarly, the acquisition of these skills will provide a foundation for the learning of more complex skills in the field of teaching. The unit will also look at learning theories and the role of a teacher in understanding and managing the classroom and the learner.
