Unit Title: Advance Organic Chemistry
The unit mostly builds on the fundamental concepts in organic chemistry that were introduced at the level five (5) chemistry (CHE502). This is to develop a better understanding and be able to interpret the chemical behavior of groups under organic compounds. The unit includes synthetic pathway of some organic compounds extracted from natural products, with the help of mechanisms. It also covers the hydrocarbon compounds and the application of spectroscopic methods to organic structure elucidation, by using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). Furthermore, the concepts of reactivity and behavior of aromatic compounds is covered as well.
