SINU COUNCIL FINANCE AND INVESTMENT COMMITTEE (FIC) HOLDS MEETING TO REVIEW FINANCIAL POLICIES, 2027 BUDGET AND AUDIT MATTERS

PRESS RELEASE

6 November 2026

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Council Finance and Investment Committee (FIC) convened its Meeting No. 2 of 2026 on Thursday, 5 November 2026, at the Kukum Lecture Theatre Building Boardroom (KLTB), under the chairmanship of Councillor Moses Virivolomo.

The meeting considered a range of important financial, policy and institutional governance matters aimed at strengthening the University’s financial management, accountability, operational efficiency and long-term financial sustainability.

A major item of discussion was the proposed SINU Budget for 2027. The Committee undertook detailed deliberations on the University’s projected revenue and expenditure, operational requirements, capital development priorities and funding arrangements. Members emphasised the importance of ensuring that the University’s budget is aligned with the SINU Strategic Plan 2026–2030 and the Annual Work Plan.

Following its deliberations, the Committee requested further review and refinement of the proposed 2027 Budget, including its financial projections, underlying assumptions, expenditure priorities and capital investment programme. The revised budget will be considered at a subsequent FIC meeting before being progressed to the SINU Council for consideration and approval.

The Committee also considered several institutional financial and governance policies, including the SINU Vehicle Entry Fee Policy, Budget Policy and Terms of Reference for the Budget Committee, Financial Document and Data Retention Policy, Month-End Financial Reporting and Reconciliation Policy, and SINU Brand Policy.

The Committee supported these policies and endorsed their progression through the University’s governance processes for formal consideration and approval by the SINU Council, subject to specific amendments and further considerations arising from the meeting.

In addition, the Committee received updates on the University’s 2021–2024 financial audit programme and discussed matters relating to financial reporting, reconciliation, records management, financial accountability and institutional capacity development.

The meeting provided an important opportunity for the Committee to exercise its financial oversight responsibilities and provide guidance on matters affecting the University’s financial governance and strategic development.

SINU remains committed to strengthening its institutional governance, ensuring responsible management of public resources and aligning its financial planning and investment decisions with its strategic priorities and mandate as the national university of Solomon Islands.
