SINU Soccer League Officially Launched

Press Release

7 June 2026

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Soccer League was officially launched on Friday, 5 June at the SINU Kukum Campus, marked by a uniform parade from participating teams representing the five faculties that make up SINU.

Speaking at the official launch, SINU Acting Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Eric Katovai, thanked the Campus Life, Welfare, and Sports Department for organizing what he described as an important event.

Associate Professor Katovai also commended the SINU Campus Life, Welfare, and Sports Department for its efforts in ensuring the well-being of students and staff through active sports and recreational activities on campus.

The Acting Vice Chancellor further acknowledged the participating teams, officials, supporters, and members of the university community who came together to make the competition possible.

“For some of you participating in this league, this competition may be the beginning of something much greater. You may discover talents that take you to provincial, national, regional, or even international levels.

“Many successful sporting careers begin on fields just like this one. I therefore encourage our students and young staff members to take this opportunity seriously, give your very best, and see where your abilities may lead you in the future.

“For staff members, particularly those who are older, your objective may be slightly different. Let us take it easy, stay injury-free, and enjoy the social, recreational, and health benefits that come from participating.

“Sometimes, the greatest victory is simply getting onto the field, enjoying fellowship with colleagues and students, improving our fitness, and having fun.

“The SINU Soccer League is an opportunity to foster teamwork, discipline, leadership, friendship, and a strong sense of community across our university.

“While we all enjoy the excitement of competition, the true value of sports lies in the relationships we build, the respect we show one another, and the lessons we learn both on and off the field.

“As participants, I encourage you to play with integrity, fairness, and good sportsmanship. Respect your teammates, your opponents, the referees, and the supporters who come to cheer you on. Remember that you represent not only your team but also the values of SINU.

“To all teams participating this year, I wish you every success. May this league be enjoyable, safe, competitive, and memorable for everyone involved.”

Following the official launch, matches are expected to commence on Monday 8 June 2026. The league will feature both male and female categories, will run throughout the month, and is expected to conclude with a prize presentation for the winning teams at the end of the month.

The launch ceremony was witnessed by the Pro Vice Chancellor Corporate Dr William Parairato, BICS Manager Samson Bisafo, NSC representative Mr. Atu, SINUSA President, as well as SINU staff and students.
