Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is pleased to share that Mr. James Elliot Samu, Assistant Lecturer in Civil Engineering and Head of Department (HOD) for Civil Engineering and Survey, has successfully completed the Training Course on River and Lake Ecological Protection and Restoration Technologies for Developing Countries, held from 12β25 November 2025 in Hangzhou, China.
The training program, sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce of the Peopleβs Republic of China and organised by the National Research Institute for Rural Electrification, Hangzhou Regional Center (Asia-Pacific) (HRC), brought together participants from developing nations to explore Chinaβs advanced approaches to water resource management, ecological conservation, digital innovation, and climate resilience.
In his closing remarks delivered on behalf of all participants, Mr. Samu expressed deep gratitude to the Peopleβs Republic of China for hosting the program and showcasing its strong commitment to environmental sustainability.

Mr. Samu also commended the organisers and presenters for delivering a well-coordinated program that blended theory with hands-on learning. Participants visited key institutions and ecological sites across Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Shanghai, including wetlands, research centres, and innovative water management facilities.

The training highlighted Chinaβs practical solutions for ecological restoration, integrated water resource management, and climate-adaptive infrastructure. This knowledge will support SINUβs ongoing work in strengthening curriculum development in sustainable resource management, environmental innovation, and climate-resilient infrastructure within the built-environment disciplines.
Mr. Samu emphasised the importance of continued advocacy for ecological protection,βour journey does not end here. Each of us has a vital role in safeguarding our rivers and lakes. Let us continue championing ecological stewardship for a more sustainable future.β
