The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) on Friday, 26 September 2025, officially conducted the handover of the SINUSA Representative to the SINU Council, marking the transition from the outgoing representative, Mr. Ramcey Olisukulu, to the newly elected student leader Mr.Samuel Rotina Suti.
The event, held at the SINU Campus, marked a significant milestone in student leadership and university governance.
In his farewell remarks, Mr. Olisukulu reflected on the challenges and progress of SINUSA, stressing the need for stronger institutional support, including dedicated office space, adequate equipment, and a clear budget allocation to enable the association to serve students effectively. He encouraged the University leadership to urgently address these matters so that SINUSA can remain a strong partner in governance and student welfare.
Turning to his successor, Mr. Sammy, Mr. Olisukulu extended warm congratulations and urged him to carry out his responsibilities with integrity, humility, and resilience. He reminded him that representing students on the University Council requires discipline, confidentiality, and the ability to be a model leader for all students. Mr. Olisukulu concluded by expressing gratitude to the SINU Council, management, and the student body for their support during his term, leaving with confidence that the foundation built will be carried forward with strength and vision.
In response, Sammy expressed his gratitude, saying he is honored to follow in the footsteps of those who served before him and humbled to accept the torch now passed down. To the outgoing Student Council Representative, he offered not just thanks but deep appreciation, noting that the service rendered was more than a title — it was a true testament to commitment, resilience, and selfless leadership. He acknowledged that the outgoing representative stood not above the students, but among them, carrying their concerns, dreams, and voices with dignity.
“As I take on this role, I am reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela, who said, ‘It always seems impossible until it is done.’ I know the road ahead will not be easy. The expectations are high — and rightfully so, because this is a place of learning, growth, and unity. My hope is to make you feel seen, heard, and valued. Thank you, and may we walk this journey together in strength and unity.”
Speaking at the event, several University leaders delivered remarks. Mr. Samson Bisafo, Manager of Business Investment and Commercial Services (BICS), commended the outgoing representative for his dedication and welcomed the incoming representative into the role. He encouraged the new representative to embrace the responsibility with humility and commitment, ensuring that the voices of students continue to be heard at the highest level of University decision-making. Mrs Aruana Runimetu, Manager of Council Secretariat also shared remarks, acknowledging the important role of student representation in governance and encouraging continued collaboration between the Council and the student body.
The handover emphasizes SINU’s commitment to strengthening student representation within the University Council and fostering a culture of responsible, engaged, and accountable student leadership.
