Overview

The University Secretariat and Records Office is essential in supporting the governance of the University, particularly in matters related to the University Council, Senate, and their Committees. The office provides impartial guidance to the Chair of the Council, the Chair of Senate, the Chairs of Council and Senate Committees, ad hoc Committees, and the Vice-Chancellor, ensuring the effective execution of their responsibilities.

As the custodian of official Council and Senate records, the office manages, stores, and protects key documents, including minutes, resolutions, and decisions, in compliance with legal and regulatory standards. This ensures transparency, accessibility, and the integrity of institutional records.

The office also plays a critical role in the development, implementation, and monitoring of University policies. It supports the formulation of policies, ensuring alignment with the University’s strategic goals, and facilitates their communication and implementation across the institution.

Through its comprehensive responsibilities, the University Secretariat and Records Office ensures that governance, records management, and policy development are carried out efficiently, supporting transparency, accountability, and effective decision-making throughout the University.

Council Meetings and Committees


The SINU Council is the top governance body of the University. The Council is supported by Standing Committees.

The Council appoints the following positions of the University

  • Visitor of the University under Section 8 of SINU Act
  • Chancellor of the University under Section 26 of SINU Act
  • Pro-Chancellor and Chair of Council
  • Vice Chancellor
  • Pro Vice-Chancellors

General Manager


Mrs Aruana Runimetu

Mrs. Aruana Runimetu hails from the beautiful Malaita Province and has vast experience working with the Solomon Islands Government. She spent 13 years, since 2007, serving as Chief Policy Analyst in the Cabinet Office at the Prime Minister’s Office & Cabinet. She also has experience in the NGO sector having worked with World Vision SI as the People and Culture Manager for two and a half years.

Mrs Runimetu holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics, Public Administration & Management, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management & Public Administration, Master of Business Administration (MBA), and a Masters in Commerce (MComm) by coursework from the University of the South Pacific.

She joined SINU in early 2023 and serves as the General Manager for the University Records and Council & Senate Secretariat.

Mr Edward Biku

Secretary to Council
Edward Biku is a qualified lawyer with over five (5) years of executive-level experience at SINU.He currently serves as the Secretary to the SINU Council, after previously holding the position of Executive Officer – Legal and Contracts, where he provided legal counsel and managed contracts and compliance.
He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice (PDLP) from the University of the South Pacific, and has attended a University Governance Training Seminar at Zhejiang Normal University in China.
Edward’s legal and governance expertise has contributed to strengthening SINU’s policies and strategic decision-making, ensuring the university operates with the highest legal and ethical standards.
