The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) Faculty of Nursing, Medicine & Health Sciences (FNMHS) will benefit from a 15 weeks Acupuncture training offered by the Chinese medical team.The Acupuncture training commenced this afternoon following the official opening of the program.
Speaking during the opening of the Acupuncture Training, Dean of Faculty of Nursing, Medicine & Health Sciences Dr Humpress Harrington thanked the Chinese Embassy in Honiara and the Chinese Medical team for offering the training for SINU nursing students and staff.
“This afternoon is a significant occasion for the faculty, as we consider this training to be essential.If you travel around the world you will see Acupuncture clinics. When the Chinese Medical team offered the opportunity for Acupuncture training, we eagerly welcomed it because Acupuncture is an alternative medicine. At SINU, we are committed to exploring these alternative therapies because they offer additional benefits. Acupuncture is one such practice that we are excited to incorporate. We have an Acupuncture clinic at the National Referral Hospital, which sees many visitors. Therefore, we want to extend this opportunity to both our students and staff, as well as anyone in the country interested in the training. On behalf of the faculty, we extend our gratitude to the Chinese Embassy in Honiara and the Chinese Medical Team for providing this training. We look forward to working closely with you to make this program a success at SINU,” stated Dr Humpress.
Also speaking at the opening ceremony, Miss Han, a representative from the Chinese Embassy congratulated students who volunteered to participate in the Acupuncture training class offered by the Chinese Medical Team.
She remarked,“Your participation in this meaningful event is greatly appreciated.On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Solomon Islands I offer my heartfelt congratulations for the successful commencement of this training class.”
She said Acupuncture is a vital component of traditional Chinese medicine and has a long history and rich cultural heritage in China.With the advancement of modern medicine, Acupuncture is gaining global recognition as an effective treatment. Since the arrival of the Chinese medical team in the Solomon Islands in 2022, more than 8,000 patients have benefited from the team who provided high quality treatment for acute chronic pain and more.”

According to Chinese Medical Team Leader Dr.MU Mao, two of their Doctors will be assisting SINU with Acupuncture training for the next 15 weeks.
Dr. Mao acknowledged that while Acupuncture training can be challenging, but with the time allocation for the training, students will grasp the knowledge and culture.
