The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is pleased to announce the acceptance of its Faculty of Nursing, Medicine and Health Sciences (FNMHS) into the prestigious Asia Pacific Observatory (APO) on Health Systems and Policy Research Consortiumโa collaborative network coordinated through the World Health Organization (WHO) Bangkok.
The successful bid places SINU among a select group of leading institutions across the Asia-Pacific region, and notably, as the only Pacific Island university within the consortium. For the next five years (2025โ2030), SINUโs FNMHS will serve as a thematic partner focusing on โHuman Resources for Health (HRH)โ, contributing to the theme: โApproaches to achieve and maintain fit-for-purpose health workforce now and into the future.โ
Other esteemed members of the consortium include:
1. The University of Melbourne, Nossal Institute for Global Health, Australia
2. University of New South Wales, The George Institute for Global Health, Sydney, Australia
3. Ateneo de Zamboanga University, School of Medicine, Zamboanga City, Philippines
4. Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Malaysia
5. Solomon Islands National University, Faculty of Nursing, Medicine and Health Sciences
SINU Vice Chancellor, Professor Transform Aqorau, expressed his pride and congratulations stating,โI am truly delighted to learn of the successful acceptance of the Faculty of Nursing, Medicine and Health Sciences (FNMHS) into the Asia Pacific Observatory on Health Systems and Policy Research Consortium, coordinated through WHO Bangkok.
This is indeed a significant and commendable achievement, and I wish to express my sincere congratulations to you and the entire team involved in the application. Your leadership and commitment to fostering high-impact regional and international collaborations have once again brought distinction to the Faculty and to SINU more broadly.โ
He further noted,โthe virtues of this partnership are manifold. Not only does it affirm the growing stature and credibility of FNMHS as a research-active faculty capable of contributing to complex, systems-level questions across the region, but it also places Solomon Islands National University at the table with leading institutions such as the Nossal Institute at the University of Melbourne and Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in Indonesiaโboth globally respected centres of excellence.โ
โBeing the only Pacific Island university in the consortium is of particular importance. It positions SINU and FNMHS as a regional thought leader and a vital voice in shaping research agendas that are inclusive of Pacific realities.โ
As part of the consortium, SINU will support APOโs mission by:
โข Conducting research and engaging in health systems and policy-related activities;
โข Collaborating with policy makers to identify, analyze, and disseminate evidence-based insights;
โข Providing technical leadership and building local capacity for health systems research;
โข Co-developing grant applications with the APO Secretariat relevant to the HRH theme.
The APO will support the activities of consortium members in line with approved workplans over an initial five-year period.
โThis milestone not only strengthens the research profile of FNMHS but also aligns perfectly with our broader vision for SINU, to be a catalyst for knowledge creation, policy innovation, and regional leadership in health and development,โ the Vice Chancellor added.
