Unit Title: Fundamentals of Teaching Social Sciences: An Introduction

The unit covers the fundamental aspects of social sciences which aim to provide both knowledge of topic content (covering fundamental theories and topics within the social sciences, as well as raising contemporary questions) and develop important academic skills, required for effective teaching and learning in the Social science classroom. The unit emphasis basic skills in mapping, demography, numeracy, writing, referencing, and critical thinking are developed through class exercises. Unit focus is placed on good communication across all mediums (written, oral, and use of ICTs) and student participation with exercises involving collaborative working, technical skills (referencing, writing), using ICTs systems (mapping and interpretation) and developing essay planning and oral presentation.
