Postgraduate Certificate in Security Studies

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is proud to announce the pilot rollout of its Postgraduate Certificate in Security Studies, tailored for the Pacific region’s security landscape.

This innovative program equips students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in key areas of modern security, including:

  • Transnational Crime

  • Human and Environmental Security

  • Intelligence and Strategic Analysis

  • Security Policy Design


πŸ’Ό Who Should Apply?

This program is ideal for:

  • Law enforcement officers and border security professionals

  • Public servants in relevant ministries or departments

  • NGO and civil society staff working on human or environmental security

  • Graduates in social sciences, law, or related fields seeking to specialize


πŸ“Œ Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following:

  1. A recognized undergraduate degree (Level 7) in a relevant discipline such as:

    • Political Science, International Relations, Law

    • Environmental Studies, Policing, Public Administration, or Development Studies

  2. A university diploma (Level 6) in a related field plus a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a security-related role

  3. Mature entry (23 years or older) with 5 or more years of relevant experience in:

    • Law enforcement, border or immigration services, or government security work

    • Subject to interview and assessment of competencies


πŸ—£οΈ Language and Literacy

  • All instruction, assessment, and course materials are delivered in English.

  • Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through:

    • Prior academic qualifications in English

    • English-language professional training

    • Or a SINU-approved English placement test


βœ… Selection Criteria

Where applications exceed available spaces, candidates will be assessed based on:

  1. Academic merit – past academic performance in relevant disciplines

  2. Professional relevance – work experience in security-related fields

  3. Motivation and alignment – a written Statement of Purpose

  4. References – strength of professional endorsements

  5. Interview – may be required for shortlisted candidates

DFAT-funded scholarships are available to eligible applicants. These scholarships cover:
