Postgraduate Certificate in Security Studies

The Solomon Islands National University (SINU) is proud to announce the pilot rollout of its Postgraduate Certificate in Security Studies, tailored for the Pacific regionโ€™s security landscape.

This innovative program equips students with advanced knowledge and practical skills in key areas of modern security, including:

  • Transnational Crime

  • Human and Environmental Security

  • Intelligence and Strategic Analysis

  • Security Policy Design


๐Ÿ’ผ Who Should Apply?

This program is ideal for:

  • Law enforcement officers and border security professionals

  • Public servants in relevant ministries or departments

  • NGO and civil society staff working on human or environmental security

  • Graduates in social sciences, law, or related fields seeking to specialize


๐Ÿ“Œ Entry Requirements

Applicants must meet at least one of the following:

  1. A recognized undergraduate degree (Level 7) in a relevant discipline such as:

    • Political Science, International Relations, Law

    • Environmental Studies, Policing, Public Administration, or Development Studies

  2. A university diploma (Level 6) in a related field plus a minimum of 3 years of professional experience in a security-related role

  3. Mature entry (23 years or older) with 5 or more years of relevant experience in:

    • Law enforcement, border or immigration services, or government security work

    • Subject to interview and assessment of competencies


๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Language and Literacy

  • All instruction, assessment, and course materials are delivered in English.

  • Applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through:

    • Prior academic qualifications in English

    • English-language professional training

    • Or a SINU-approved English placement test


โœ… Selection Criteria

Where applications exceed available spaces, candidates will be assessed based on:

  1. Academic merit โ€“ past academic performance in relevant disciplines

  2. Professional relevance โ€“ work experience in security-related fields

  3. Motivation and alignment โ€“ a written Statement of Purpose

  4. References โ€“ strength of professional endorsements

  5. Interview โ€“ may be required for shortlisted candidates

DFAT-funded scholarships are available to eligible applicants. These scholarships cover:

  • Tuition fees

  • Course materials
