Unit Title: Common Diseases in Solomon Islands

This unit introduces learners to various concepts and theories on causes of both communicable and non-communicable diseases, transmission of micro-organism for communicable and prevention measures for both communicable and non-communicable diseases. From the health information system Solomon Islanders suffered more from non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, cancer and cardio-vascular diseases. In the unit learners will investigate how the lifestyle and environments affects the health of our people. It is believed that the burden and trend of both communicable and non-communicable diseases can only be curb if we discover their cause and change our health promotion and prevention strategies. Therefore, this unit is specifically designed to enhance creative thinking of student to develop new innovative strategies to prevent themselves and others from preventable diseases and protect the life of all people in our societies.
