Unit Title: Silviculture
The unit introduces the students to silviculture which covers the following instructional areas: introduction to silviculture, definition and scope of silviculture, forest plantations and natural regeneration treatments, the importance of forest plantations, forest tree seed biology, types of forest nurseries, choice of site, production and protection of seedlings, vegetative propagation, plant disorders in the nursery, site and species evaluation, programs of tree improvement, the establishment of plantations, the importance of pruning, thinning and tending in forest plantations, enrichment planting over logged over the forest, and afforestation on grassland areas.
