Dr Morgan Wairiu

Dr. Morgan Wairiu is a respected Solomon Islands academic from Marau Sound, East Guadalcanal, and the newly appointed Pro Chancellor and Chairperson of the 4th SINU Council. He has extensive experience in teaching, research, publication, and managing educational institutions.

He currently leads the USAID-funded SCALE-NRM Project under Winrock International and previously held senior leadership roles at the Pacific Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development (PACE-SD) at the University of the South Pacific. Dr. Wairiu also served as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

A Fulbright Scholar, he holds a PhD from Ohio University, an MSc from the University of Aberdeen, a Postgraduate Certificate from the University of London, and a Bachelor of Agriculture from the University of Papua New Guinea.

Dr. Wairiu is recognised internationally for his contributions to climate change research, including roles as Lead Author and Coordinating Lead Author for major IPCC reports. He has published widely, supervised more than 20 postgraduate students, and served on numerous regional and global committees.
