Distance & Flexible Learning Centre (DFLC)

About Us

DFLC Manager
Martin OTTO (Mr.)
I warmly welcome you as you surf through DFL web page. The Centre under the Solomon Islands National University is fairly new. Nevertheless, the officers are not new to Open and Distance Education Delivery.

The name Distance & Flexible Learning Centre (DFLC) is a new name derived from the Distance Education Centre when Solomon Islands National University was College of Higher Education. The Distance and Flexible Learning Centre is set up to provide quality technical and administrative assistance to Academic Schools, distance students and stakeholders. The University has five Schools who are solely responsible for every academic course (program) and units offered at the University in both distance and face-to-face modes. The schools are:

  1. School of Education & Humanities,
  2. School of Business & Management,
  3. School of Nursing & Allied Health Sciences,
  4. School of Natural Resources & Applied Sciences, and
  5. School of Technology & Maritime Studies.

The courses and units offered by the Schools through the distance mode are the same with what is offered through the conventional (on-campus) mode. The difference would be distance students have all the comfort of their families and homes right there whilst studying.

When you choose to study with SINU and become a student, you are not only becoming a student but a family member of our national university where we care for each other. This platform we strongly believe will help you and us progress and be successful. The SINU strongly believes in the future you want and your desire therefore, it will work together with you so that you achieve your aspiration in higher education and skills training.

SINU core values are Excellence & Quality, Innovativeness, Relevance, Inclusivity, Collegiality, Leadership and Sustainability. This reflects SINU’s commitment in creating a student who is an Effective Communicator, Globally Aware, Professional Leaders, Creative & Critical thinkers, work ready & job creators.

SINU is a National University and the certificates, diplomas and degrees it offers are highly regarded by employers throughout Solomon Islands.

The centre has ten hard working staff. Three of the officers are responsible for the instructional designing of materials; two in the support services, a Research and Marketing Officer, and the rest are support staff.
